Bathroom Stall Tears: Part II, 2022, Single-channel video, 04:01

The “Bathroom Stall Tears” video series, which is a part of the “Grandma Nightclub”, opens the door to a more intimate space for expression and reflections by capturing my personal childhood memories. This video is meant to be watched in the bathroom stall of the “Grandma Nightclub” installation.

In “Bathroom Stall Tears: Part II”, an unborn me (situated in my mother’s womb) speaks to my mother and, in parts, sings with her. My pleas, in Japanese and English, critique the power of gender stereotypes in shaping intergenerational expectations.

The “Grandma Nightclub” is one video installation component of a future “Grandma Entertainment Franchise (GEF)” installation that will also include a grandma day spa and a grandma amusement park.
