Family Dinner Conversation, 2008, Three-channel video installation, 08:11, Dimensions variable
Family Dinner Conversation explores the differences in expectations of a daughter’s life within one family encompassing two different generations. Filmed in the context of a conversation around a kitchen table, the audience is able to answer life questions the parents propose to their daughter as the banter progresses. It is a poignant bittersweet look at generational gaps and how each person designs themselves in terms of their own happiness.
As a three-channel video installation with each family member on one television, the videos are to be started simultaneously, so it would be like a conversation hopping back and forth between the mother, father, and daughter. Family Dinner Conversation is a presentation of the conversation consolidated into one video.
