“Playskool” Playboy Mansion, 2013, Mixed media, Collapsed Size: 30” x 24” x 18”; Expanded Size: 30” x 48” x 9”

The “Playskool” Playboy Mansion is a functional toy sculpture made out of wood, foam, plastic, custom vinyl stickers, Sculpey, and acrylic paint. It has a 3-D simulated façade of the Beverly Hills Playboy Mansion and is collapsible inside a “knock-off” Playboy logo carrying case, complete with a mobile red sports car that seats the “Playskool” Hugh Hefner and Playboy Bunny figures. Conflating “Playskool” type figures, which represent one of the most wholesome toys created, with the adult-themed Playboy, I wanted to create a humorous yet discomforting, unrealistic product to be sold in the marketplace to children.
